Gulf Coast Medical Center, located at 13681 Doctor’s Way in Fort Myers, has begun a massive expansion and renovation project. The Bonita Springs-based GATES Construction and New York-based Skanska USA have come together in a joint venture (Skanska GATES) to oversee construction of Gulf Coast Medical Center’s $347.6 million expansion and renovation project. The 531,000 square foot medical center will be renovating 46,000 square feet and adding 367,500 square feet to the existing facility. The project will add 268 new inpatient beds to the hospital and relocate the Trauma Center, which is now located at Lee Memorial Hospital. Other project details include a new Dialysis Center and Cardiology Unit, expanding the Radiology Department, Emergency Room and Pharmacy, and adding a new 1,300 vehicle-parking garage. The construction will be completed in three phases. Gulf Coast Medical Center’s expansion and renovations are slated for completion by 2021. Design services are be provided by HKS Architects.
